Garmin has introduced a satellite navigator; the GARMIN NUVI 860T Satellite Navigator that comes with most of Garmin’s patented features. It can be completely controlled by voice.

GARMIN NUVI 860T In-Car Satellite Navigator has a 4.3-inch wide touch screen display that has a display resolution of 480×272 pixels. Its dimensions are 7.8×12.5x 1.8 cm and weighs about 176 grams. It uses the secure Linux open architecture and has internal speakers. Its in-built antenna is integrated with a high sensitivity receiver. The sat nav’s internal solid state memory can be augmented using microSD memory cards. It runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that has a battery life of up-to 4 hours. Along with a slot for USB interface a 3.5mm jack is provided for connecting headphones.

GARMIN NUVI 860T Satellite Navigator includes the basemap along with several points of interest. A facility to add extra points of interest is also provided. The maps can be viewed in two and three dimensional formats. Locating an address is easy with the postcode search facility. Routes can be planned with multiple stop overs in between or as a simple route that directly takes you to your destination. With the help of TMC functionality, real time traffic updates are available well in advance. In case of any kind of road congestions, the device automatically calculates an alternative route. Whilst navigating along with route guidance voice directions are also provided. With the Voice Recognition functtion you can have complete control over the road as the device works on your voice commands. A remote is fixed on the car’s steering wheel which catches your voice command and transfers it to the device for it to operate accordingly.

GARMIN NUVI 860T Multimedia Satellite Navigator comes with Bluetooth compatibility. Hence you can make and receive hands free calling while driving. The Bluetooth facility also enables you to perform a wireless transfer of data over a short range. It comes with an in-built MP3 player and an audio book player. While you are not navigating or if stuck in traffic then you can listen to your favourite tracks. Photos and pictures can also be viewed on this sat nav owing to the device’s picture viewer.
